Artist's Comments

I'm finally comfortable with the level of finished-ness of my second thesis piece to post it.

To recap: my thesis is going to be a series of illustrations (single pages, spots and two page spreads) depicting my own version of Cinderella. The whole idea is an expansion of the "Cinderella My Way" [link] piece I did in class junior year. Just like last year, I'm using my character designs from the Broadway universe because 1) the story of Cinderella is special to them in the first place and 2) I knew using characters I care about would keep me interested in this project for an entire semester.

This isn't the chronologically "next" illustration I have planned for story order, but I wanted to get it out of the way because of all the perspective and background elements. So very many hours in this, agh. I think I spent almost 3 hours on her dress alone. But yes... the prince, obviously smitten, asking Cinderella to dance.

Still to come: 3 spots and a two page spread. I'm trying not to think of how long I have left to do these.

:wow: i love it, it's amazing the amount of detail you're able to covey. i especially love how you've done the folds on the dress

Her dress is amazing, all those folds... And I love the double-source lighting on her, and her expression. Him too, but it's more noticable on her since she's close to the door.

I like your dark-haried Cinderella. She's almost always depicted with light hair, and this is a refershing change.

Gorgeous! I particularly love how delicate you made your Cinderella...The contrast between her obviously slight frame and the overall grandeur of the building is great!
