I've wanted to learn how to use markers for years since I've seen some really awesome marker work out there. I'd also like to be able to do some color commissions at conventions.
I tried messing with some cheaper markers, but the quality of the ink and coverage wasn't great at all. I finally invested in a 36 set of Copics and it made a world of difference! Copics behave differently than the other types of markers I've tried and I really, really liked it.
This is my third experiment with them and the first I feel is worthy of posting. I still have a lot of work to do to get more comfortable with the technique and exactly how to handle the layering and such, but I'm going to be putting another Copic set on my Christmas list to have more colors to play with. I need to ask some of my college friends who use markers a lot if they have any pointers.
Do any of you know what surfaces are the best for markers? I have a marker pad that I've been using that works great, but I'm curious as to what other surfaces work.
Post-manga Inu and Kagome, of course. I use familiar subjects when I experiment. : P
Well, I'm still learning different things about my copics. But I love using them with watercolor pieces as well. No problems on that paper. I still think my marker pad is my favorite though for merely marker work. Ummm...I'm trying to remember anything else I've used them on but no other particular paper comes to mind. Haha. Good luck! And good work so far.

Nice work! I love Copics so much!! Right now I just have 4 for skin color and the rest is sharpies... Ive never worked on marker paper before but I think cardstock works great too!
I've been using Bristol board for a surface for my marker work (smooth texture, not vellum). Granted, I use Prisma markers, but I'd imagine that it would work well for Copics too...
Oy, you make my brain hurt with your awesomeness. My first few tries with copics didn't look NEARLY this cool. I've definately learned volumes just by LOOKING at his hair. *sigh* There should be tutorials for this sort of thing.
