Dark Link -- Screw this battle. Seriously. by KrisCynical Dark Link -- Screw this battle. Seriously. by KrisCynical

I really am trying to make an effort to post more art, even if some of it is sketchy or WIPs. This one is obviously not, though. Duh.

There's not much explanation needed on this one. The Dark Link mini boss battle in the water temple of Ocarina of Time. I hate this battle. I suck at it. I seem to be the only one who sucks at it.

I started drawing this one more than a year ago, but since I didn't like the way the tight sketch was turning out, I shelved it for later. I finally went back to it last month, it worked this time, so it was my new piece for Anime Fest.

Illustrator CS2 and Photoshop CS2.

Nice picture. I like how you made the tree's reflection in the water all ripply, and also how you addad a trail of glitter behind Navi.

Have you tried using the Biggoron Sword against Dark Link? My battle against him went by fast the first time I played OoT--I used the Biggoron Sword on him, and he went down in about 3 hits.

When I played through this part I had yet to use the Biggoron sword due to past playing experience. The last time I had played this game it was on the N64, and in that version the Biggoron sword was fragile as hell and broke easily. Two whacks on anything and it would snap in two!

It wasn't until I was fighting the Water Temple boss (Morpha...? I can't remember for sure) that I realized Nintendo had actually FIXED that issue. Otherwise I probably would have tried it! I'll remember that suggestion if I ever play through again.

I thought the Biggoron Sword never breaks? The Giant's Knife breaks after a few uses. Then again, I played it on 3DS, not N64..

I don't remember there being two big blades like that at that point in the game, but I could very well be mistaken because it's been like 15 years since I played the original N64 release. It may have been a glitch, too, because my cartridge of it did some funky stuff throughout the game.

I just remember battling Morpha and it snapped in two in the middle of the battle. I was staring at the TV like :omg: when it happened. lol

chances are that you had the Giants Knife not the Biggorons sword. you have to go through a huge sidequest shenanigans in order to get the Biggorons sword >>; i found it by accident trying to figure out what to do with the stupid blue cuccoo cojiro >>; and then going from there

great work but i dont like too much the dark link it looks very simple

Thanks on the "great work", but...simple? That's certainly a new one! I usually call myself a detail whore when it comes to drawing Zelda stuff.

He was anything but "very simple" to draw, believe me! The only simple thing about him was the coloring, pretty much. I suggest you try making the image bigger or adjust the brightness of your monitor if he's just looking like a dark blob (which is entirely possible if monitor brightness is too low). I put every detail on him that's present in the game itself, after all. It bugs me to leave stuff out.

You are entitled to your own opinion, of course. It's just that if all the details on that sheath and the clothing folds is "very simple", I'd be interested to see what you consider to be complicated! ;)
